U.s. Health Care System Faces Challenges - 1936 Words

The U.S. health care system faces challenges and it is urgent that the American people become aware of these challenges. There are approximately 46 million Americans who are uninsured, and many insured Americans who face rapid increases in premiums have to pay outofpocket costs. As Congress and the Obama administration consider ways to invest new funds to reduce the number of Americans without insurance coverage, people must address shortfalls in the quality and efficiency of care that lead to higher costs and to poor health outcomes. If something is not done soon, there will be many more who will not have health care coverage that is affordable or they will be without coverage altogether. There is evidence that Americans often do not get†¦show more content†¦The undermining of the health care system is not surprising given that health care providers do not have the payment support or other tools they need to communicate and together effectively to improve patient care. The one way people can get approved for health care is if the government is willing to help the people by paying for their bill or for paying half of the bill for the people to get insured. The Affordable Care Act will help many people who are either uninsured or underinsured. One group in particular are patients infected with HIV. It is estimated that 1.2 million people living with HIV will be see great improvement in their health and their treatment plan. This access to lifesaving care and treatment will make a huge difference in the statistics of HIV patient survival rates. â€Å"The HIV treatment community sees the act as a critical step in our fight against the AIDS epidemic,† said Scott Shoe trees of Lambda Legal, a national gayrights advocacy group. People are making plans on how to use funding and insurance to assist people with HIV only to have their plans rejected or pulled out from under them.This is a tremendous loss when health care is used wisely and effectively for those in need. According to the Department of Health and Human Services only about 13 percent of people with HIV have private health insurance and about 24 percent of the people have no coverage and no insurance at all. Patients who suffer from hypertension, heart disease, and diabetes often do not receive the health care and effective treatments such as drug therapies or self management services to help them more effectively manage their conditions.
